Yes, those signs for John 3:16 are there for a reason. All of us make mistakes in disobedience to God, whether intentional or otherwise. These mistakes separate us from God. Salvation means being saved from these mistakes (or sins). According to John 3:16, Jesus’s death on the cross allows our “sins” to be erased – he paid the ultimate price, once and for ALWAYS, that he didn’t deserve, that we did deserve. Faith in this power of Jesus, and his sacrifice, is the ONLY way to gain “salvation” from our various sins. But why should I have faith in Jesus – you just said he died!
